Tracee Ellis Ross Is Serving Business Rapunzel With This Ponytail — See Photos

As the founder of a hair-care brand—one that just won two Best of Beauty Awards, for that matter—it’s downright predictable when Tracee Ellis Ross switches up her hair with absolute aplomb. Like, of course she’s going to look incredible; between her Pattern products and the help of stylist Chuck Amos, it’s inevitable. But that doesn’t mean she can’t still surprise us with the way she pairs a certain hairstyle with her sartorial choices.

Typically, melodramatically long ponytails are accompanied by the glammest of glam looks for red carpets and movie premieres. There’s something fantastical and anything but everyday about such a lengthy look, especially when you’re going out of your way to add extensions to create it. And that’s why we were taken so off guard by Ross’s unexpected pairing of a fairy tale pony with an all-business power suit.

Ross spoke at the Fast Company Innovation Festival on September 18 in a gray oversized blazer and matching flared pencil skirt that screams, “Why yes, I am intimately familiar with that C-suite life.” But Ross being Ross, her stylist Karla Welch, added in those Tracee touches like a wide, multi-texture, brown belt and a white tee.

But the greatest element of interest has to be Ross’s ponytail. Amos slicked it back flawlessly, gathering it at the back of her head and wrapping the elastic with hair. The ponytail itself goes on seemingly forever—okay, so it stops pretty much at her hips—looking sleek, straight, and shiny.
